Trauma
Trauma is a psychological and physiological response that happens when a person experiences an event (or series of events) that feels overwhelming, threatening, or beyond their ability to cope.
Trauma is not only the event itself, but how the nervous system and mind respond to it.
What can cause trauma
Trauma can come from many types of experiences, such as:
• Abuse (physical, emotional, or sexual)
• Neglect in childhood
• Accidents or injuries
• Sudden loss of a loved one
• Violence or witnessing violence
• Medical trauma
• Chronic stress or unstable environments
